Cavan tourism investment demonstrates our commitment to Rural Ireland – Minister Humphreys

June 10, 2021

The €6.4 million investment in the Shannon Pot and Cavan Burren Park is a clear demonstration of the Government’s commitment to Rural Ireland, according to local Minister Heather Humphreys.

Welcoming the announcement, Minister Humphreys said:

“It is so important that the Covid-19 recovery is regionally balanced. This includes ensuring we make our rural amenities as attractive as possible to tourists, both domestic and international.

“This project will give visitors a unique experience of this journey along the Shannon and through Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.

“Over the next 10 years, it’s predicted this project will generate €30 million in direct tourism expenditure, while supporting hundreds of jobs in the wider region.

“I am delighted that Cavan has been given such a vote of confidence from the Government and Fáilte Ireland. I want to pay tribute to Cavan County Council and the other stakeholders for the quality of their application.

“I also want to thank my colleague, Minister Catherine Martin, for delivering on this significant investment for Cavan.”

Minister Humphreys continued:

“When I launched Our Rural Future in April, I said we have a once in a life time opportunity to reinvigorate and reimagine Rural Ireland.

“Investments like this are proof behind that policy.”
